Benefits of Membership

Founded in 1947, and with members in over 80 countries and most geographical regions, the International Biometric Society's (IBS) members advance biological science through the development of quantitative theories and the application, and the development and dissemination of effective mathematical and statistical techniques. The Society welcomes as members biologists, mathematicians, statisticians, and others interested in applying similar techniques. The Society supports members’ professional development and fosters engagement beyond their immediate roles. IBS offers resources, awards, training, publications, and networking to help members stay at the forefront of the field.

The most valuable benefits are often intangible. Connecting with members from across the globe opens new opportunities and perspectives. The IBS mentoring program creates a virtuous cycle. Attending events can lead to opportunities to build professional relationships, joint collaborations, and even friendships, not to mention deepening your sense of belonging in our global community!

When you join IBS, you will receive a wide variety of content and services on demand, including:

  • Complimentary access to the Biometrics journal online, hosted by Oxford University Press (Online ISSN 1541-0420). Members can also contribute to the management of the journal.

  • Complimentary access online to JABES, the Journal of Agricultural, Biological, and Environmental Statistics (Online ISSN 1537-2693). Members can also enjoy reduced fees for a paper subscription.

  • Access older issues of Biometrics and JABES for a nominal fee through our partner, JSTOR.

  • Online access to forty years of Biometric Bulletin. New issues are published quarterly and include career opportunities, international conference listings and articles, and news from partner societies and our local affiliated Regions.

  • Take part in the organization of IBS Region and Network meetings, as well as the International Biometric Conference, offering programs with an emphasis on quality science and a professionally-managed organizational framework.

  • Discounted registration fees to every International Biometric Conference, sponsored by the International Biometric Society.

  • Attend complimentary online sessions such as the IBS Journal Club, Distinguished Lecture Series, and pre-recorded IBC content.

  • Access professional contacts through our secure online directory.

  • Access the IBS Members Community, a perfect way to connect online with colleagues and friends from around the globe.

  • Access volunteer opportunities by joining our Volunteer Pool program.

  • Build and share your professional profile through the IBS website, free of charge.

  • Join the IBS Mentoring Program and build meaningful professional connections with biostatisticians worldwide.

  • Gain professional recognition through IBS, IBC and our publications' awards programs.

  • For members in lower and middle-income countries, take advantage of annual scientific meeting travel grant programs.

  • For members whose primary language is not English, the Prose Editing Project (PEP) helps members polish up their manuscripts intended for scientific journals.

  • In addition, most IBS members have access to a variety of local conferences, services and networking benefits through your local biometricians' / statisticians' society!

Join Us Today!

Applicants for membership typically join directly through the affiliated IBS Region where they live and/or work.

New members are encouraged to join through an appropriate Region. This is so that members may engage with others in the community, and advance professionally and socially by sharing local knowledge and experiences.

Applicants for membership not located within an affiliated IBS Region may join directly as a Member at Large.

Applicants may only apply directly with the IBS if there is no Region covering the geographic area in which they reside. In the case of At-Large applicants, the IBS Executive Director has approval authority.

Applicants residing in Lower-and-Middle-Income (LMIC) are eligible for significant discounts.

To encourage membership within lower and middle-income countries, a reduced fee structure has been established for applicants from these countries.

Students, apply for membership free of charge!

Whether you are joining through a local Region or as a Member-At-Large, full and part-time Student members are eligible to join the Society for free during their time at university.

Join us and gain access to leading scholarly journals, global conferences, online learning, mentoring, awards, and a worldwide community of biostatisticians and biometricians. Enjoy exclusive resources, networking, and recognition opportunities—all designed to help you advance your career and connect with colleagues across the globe.
