Donation Options
The IBS gratefully accepts donations annually for two funds which are managed by the Society. All donations are passed through to selected recipients as follows:
Education Fund
This fund results in grant funding to IBS Regions to help defray the costs of bringing speakers, students and innovative programming to conferences held in those Regions. Educational activities supported by this fund include, for example, the development of online video and audio courses as well as Short Courses. Through the oversight provided by the Education Committee, Society members’ educational needs are satisfied locally, and Regions are strengthened.
Travel Awards Fund
We know that members will sometimes not have access to travel grants from their own countries or institutions, and as a result they often seek external sponsorship. Funds donated to this program support the educational activities of individual members in lower and middle-income countries in the form of travel grants. This program allows members to attend either the International Biometric Conference in even-numbered years or IBS Region and Network conferences in odd-numbered years. The maximum amount available to recipients varies depending on the year.
The distribution of Travel Awards funds has increased our membership from lower and middle-income countries (LMICs) and increased the number of participants possible at local conferences and IBCs, thus helping to make the International Biometric Society a truly global society. The Society’s Board has approved a match for each individual donation made to this program, up to $20,000 USD annually. Oversight is provided by the Awards Fund Committee.
