IBS Young Ambassadors to ISI

The International Statistical Institute (ISI) and the International Biometric Society (IBS) are jointly sponsoring an initiative to fund two young statisticians who belong to the IBC to participate in the International Statistics Institute (ISI) World Statistics Conference (WSC) 2019 being held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 18 to 23rd August, 2019.

For the purpose of this competition, a “young statistician” is defined as someone who has obtained their most recent statistics qualification in the last ten years, i.e. their PhD (or latest degree in statistics) was awarded after 1st January, 2010. He or she must be a current member of the IBS. If not already a member of both Societies, a successful applicant is expected to join ISI. Although IBS considers the Young Ambassadors Program as being open to all our young members, we particularly encourage applicants from developing countries (see IBS designation here).

Funding will include the following, subject to a maximum of US $5,000.

  • Registration for ISI2019
  • Round-trip economy airfare to Kuala Lumpur
  • An amount to cover six (6) nights mid-level accommodation (amount to be determined with respect to conference accommodation offered) to be used as the successful applicant wishes
  • Visa costs.

Applicants must submit a short paper, please click here for instructions.

If not already a member of both Societies, a successful applicant is expected to join ISI. There is a growing cohort of past Young Ambassadors who are helping to promote collaboration between the young statisticians of ISI and IBS.

Applications are due by 21st January 2019 and are to be e-mailed to the International Business Office.

Information required in the application is as follows:

  • The applicant’s submitted paper for ISI2019
  • A curriculum vitae of at most two pages
  • A statement of up to 100 words indicating how participation in the ISI2019 will promote positive interaction between ISI and IBS and your personal career.

Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously attended an ISI World Statistics Congress.

The applications will be considered by a joint ISI-IBS committee. The intention is to inform applicants of the decision by late February 2019.
