IBS to Match Donation to Travel Awards Fund

The IBS Travel Awards Fund was established to provide assistance to as many members as possible from developing countries to attend the International Biometric Conference.   IBS members from developing countries usually do not have access to travel grants from their own countries or institutions and seek external sponsorship.  With the 26th IBS in Kobe, Japan, the need for travel assistance will be more critical.

The distribution of Travel Award funds has resulted in an increase in our membership from developing countries, thus making the International Biometric Society truly an international society.  Nowhere is this international nature more visible than at our conferences.

However, in recent years, the awards have become quite competitive. In 2006, 13 applicants (out of 21) were successful, while in 2008, only 7 applicants (out of 70) were successful. In 2010, IBS granted $15,000 to allow 10 applicants (out of 20)  to attend IBC2010 in Brazil.

IBS has instituted a Matching Funds Program.  Hence for every dollar that a region or individual donates for this purpose, IBS will match it with an equal amount. This means that we have the potential to enable twice as many people from developing countries to attend our conference.

Please donate today.  Every individual/region will be acknowledged and IBS will make your contribution go twice as far.
